Dance up a Storm!
A wonderful evening was had by all at Communify’s Scottish Ceilidh.
The many volunteers, who donated their time and energy, pulled out all the stops and created a night I’m sure many people will remember for some time to come.
Seventy people came along of all ages and many nationalities, some of whom even arrived in kilts, who had heard about the ceilidh through local newspapers, newsletters, Scottish societies and word of mouth.
Everybody danced their socks off to classic Scottish reels such as the Dashing White Sargent and the Flying Scotsman played by the Scottish band Scotch on the Rocks who, kitted out in full traditional dress, provided non stop fun and energetic festivities and kept everyone dancing into the night.
Revellers also enjoyed refreshments, home baking and prizes generously donated by local businesses and volunteers.
We are pleased to announce Communify raised $1000 dollars from ticket and raffle sales as well as our delicious sausage sizzle, which will go towards helping struggling refugee and asylum seeker families within our Brisbane community.
Some of these families came along on the night and their courage and enthusiasm, despite cultural and language barriers, inspired some of our ceilidh goers to volunteer with us in the future.
We hope to hold another Ceilidh soon so watch this space and we will keep you posted.
