Securing our Welfare – is it time for a Basic Income?

The idea of a Universal Basic Income (or UBI) is gaining support from an increasingly vocal and diverse range of people and organisations around the world. The prospect of a government extending an unconditional basic wage to all its citizens is not without controversy and certainly not without complexity. Join us on May 17 as Politics in the Pub debates this most fascinating proposal.
Our panellists for the evening include Professor Gregory Marston (School of Social Policy UQ), Professor John Quiggin (School of Economics UQ, ARC Australian Laureate Fellow in Economics), Rachel Watson (Manager Service Innovation and New Business, Wesley Mission Brisbane) Dominique Lamb (CEO National Retail Association and Director of NRA Legal) and Graham Young (Executive Director of the Australian Institute for Progress). Hosted by Radio National’s Paul Barclay this will be an evening not to miss.

Wednesday May 17, 6pm. Brisbane Powerhouse, New Farm.

Proudly co-hosted by Basic Rights Queensland and Communify.
