Politics in the Pub – Refugees: Let ‘em come? Let ‘em stay?

Australia has a long history of accepting refugees for resettlement. As increasing numbers of refugees seek asylum on Australian boarders, immigration and border protection are high on the country’s political agenda. Confusion however still remains in the public debate on refugees and asylum seekers – not just about who they are, but also the impact they have on Australian life.

Join us for the next instalment of Politics in the Pub, where experts from a range of viewpoints will explore with you the audience, the controversial topic of refugees and asylum seekers in Australia.

Speakers will include:

• Professor Michael Kidd – QUT School of Economics
• Dr Peter Billings – TC Beirne School of Law , UQ
• Jim Savage – One Nation Party Queensland

Now in its 14th year, Politics in the Pub is a free, all-ages community forum that aims to unearth and discuss local, national and international issues from a wide range of viewpoints. Held at the Brisbane Powerhouse, these events facilitate discussions on the issues that are important to our local community.
